Quentin Tarantino may have his detractors but there&#39;s no denying his style has influenced more filmmakers in the past twenty years than any other director. There have been a slew of copycats. But for every decent imitator like &quot;2 Days in the Valley&quot; or &quot;Smokin Aces&quot; we get a poor one like &quot;Bitch Slap&quot; or &quot;Baytown Outlaws.&quot; The plot is simple enough: a woman (Eva Longoria) hires three redneck brothers to retrieve her godson from her evil ex (Billy Bob Thornton). The three brothers are played by actors I&#39;ve never heard of and at least two of them seemed to have been cast for their dreaminessopposed to any kind of authenticityrednecks or, God forbid, acting ability. It seems the casting for this was swinging for the fences, trying to grab any niche audience they could. The film does have a crisp pace although it runs out of steam about midway through. They could have gotten more mileage out of the sexy female biker gang, in my opinion. Once they&#39;re gone the movie becomes rather boring the rest of the way.<br/><br/>There are no memorable scenes and nothing in the movie stays with you after you&#39;re done with it. It&#39;s somewhat entertaining on a surface level for a little while but my patience wore thin halfway into the movie and I started checking the time. Oh and this movie does have some name actors assembled but most of them have small parts. Thornton has an important role in the movie but he only appears here and there in short bursts. His total screen time amounts to less than fifteen minutes I&#39;m sure. The same can be said of Longoria, Andre Braugher, Paul Wesley, and so on. The only actors who appear on screen a lot are the ones playing the three brothers and none of them are impressive. Hey what a great film, this definitely had undertones of Tarantino, in fact if I never knew any better I would have said this was one of his films. The three main characters were well portrayed, if a little OTT ! Eva Longoria is always easy on the eye, its just a pity we never got to see MORE of her if you know what I mean! Storyline whilst quite simple and basic was OK, there were certainly plenty of plot holes and the story was weak in places, but at the end of the day this was just a schlockfest of violence and one liners. Billy Bob Thornton, whilst getting top billing played quite a minor role which could have been developed more thoroughly and comedically. Although I have never heard of any of the main 3 actors, I am sure they must have had prior quality roles. There was a bit of schmaltz in this movie with the invalid boy ( well played by Thomas Brodie Sangster of Game of Thrones fame, giving a performance akin to Daniel day Lewis in My Left Foot) receiving some gush from the brothers. Anyway, a movie well worth watching, not an Oscar nomination, but still a good yarn and a laugh… This schlocky piece of ultra violence plays like a pop-culture pastiche without a stable thematic foundation.
